Iceland fed my wanderlust with waterfalls and wild Iceland fed my wanderlust with waterfalls and wild weather. A bathing suit, two pairs of gloves, and a curious appetite? All absolute essentials.——————#icelandtravel #icelandtrip #icelandexplored #packing #solotraveller #solotrip
Iceland Day Four ⬇️ Woke up in Egilsstadir, t Iceland Day Four ⬇️Woke up in Egilsstadir, then continued heading north & west, to end the day near Mývatn. Along the way:- checked the (very intense) map I made & realized I should check out Stuðlagil, an incredible display of basalt columns, somewhat off the beaten path - took the road less traveled here - it was bumpy - and saw maybe five other humans on my side of the river- visited Dettifoss in driving rain + ferocious wind - it is Europe’s most powerful waterfall - stopped for lunch & a short wander in Husavik, the whale watching capital of the world - saw no whales, but ate fries + seafood soup - remembered Yellowstone NP as I explored Hverir Geothermal Area- soaked in the blue waters of the Mývatn Baths - yelped and gasped as I crested every hill & rounded every corner, it was an epic & incredible drive along the northeastern side of this brilliant island #solotravel #exploreiceland #iceland
Iceland Day Three ⬇️ Traveled from Höfn to E Iceland Day Three ⬇️Traveled from Höfn to Egilsstaðir, in east Iceland. Along the way:- spent a rainy morning at Stokksnes, headlands with black sand beaches & an old farm turned Viking village.- saw reindeer, which are only found on this side of Iceland.- are my first hotdog (loved it).- hiked up to Hengifoss, Iceland’s second-highest waterfall. - went to the Vök Baths, my first of several geothermal pools. #solotravel #iceland
Iceland Day Two ⬇️ I started the day in Vík Iceland Day Two ⬇️I started the day in Vík and ended it in Höfn. Along the way:- Skógafoss and climbed the long stairs beside it, plus two mile of waterfall-laden trail.- A beach chair.- Svartifoss in Skaftafell, framed by basalt columns that appear carved by something alien or ancient, maybe both. - Jökulsárlón with icebergs drifting in a pale blue lagoon, seals weaving between them. - An incredible dinner at Pakkhús, with langoustine soup & other fresh treats. #iceland #epiciceland #vik #solotravel
Iceland Day One ⬇️ Ten years ago, I went camp Iceland Day One ⬇️Ten years ago, I went camping in a state park 45 minutes from home and felt like I’d done something huge. I think about that trip—and the person I was then—a lot, especially when I’m on the road or boarding a red-eye to Iceland I booked on an absolute whim. I was so scared back then, as that girl, so fearful. But as I landed in Iceland, I found none of that. It’s gone now.An hour after touchdown, I was on the road, headed to a series of waterfalls—Urriðafoss, Seljalandsfoss, Gljúfrabúi—and, ultimately, Vík. I pit-stopped at Dyrhólaey and was astonished when a puffin landed just a few feet in front of me.This place, this land of fire and ice, is familiar and distinct. There’s a peace here that’s settling into my bones and there’s still so much to see. ⸻#solotravel #iceland #epiciceland
